Verdun
Before the tour I knew that we would be going to Verdun but didn't really know anything about the battle there or much about WWI. I think that is why I was so moved by our time there.

The next day we met our bus driver, Hilde, and the bus Heidebloem. Hilde becomes an important part of our group, with her comfy bus and her infectious laugh. We're off to Verdun, an important WWI battle site on the way to Colmar. The battlefield looks like it goes on forever. The memorial to the right has many names and bones of the 130,000 that died in this war. The underground fort was controlled by both sides at different times and 13 villages were destroyed and never rebuilt.
